What does everyone talk about most at a wedding? The food. From appetizers to multiple courses to buffets to Viennese hour to the take-home snacks, it's no wonder this laundry list is the thing that's most discussed! We'd like to tackle our ideas on only one of these things that's actually called for by name: the wedding cake.
The man of the house (not Max) is not a real big sweets kinda guy. Into savory flavors and chocolate treats that border the bitter side. His two favorite cake flavors are chocolate and Funfetti--side note: who doesn't like Funfetti?! While the lady of the house is non-discriminatory when it comes to treats. Her food motto is something along the lines of, "Oh, it's delicious? Yes, please." Where do we come together?
The best part of our long engagement is all the brainstorming time we have together. Talking out what we like, don't like, and how we've felt about things as guests. We also get to make jokes about having things like this as our cake:
There are so many factors to consider with just this one simple item. How many people are we inviting? How many will actually show up? Do we know anyone with food allergies? Do we want a cake or cupcakes of cake pops? Does anyone even eat the cake?!
Without further ado, here are our current Top 5 Wedding Cake Ideas!
#1. Brunch Wedding : Pan-Cake
We're not early risers and this seems like it would just make sense.
#2. Traditional Wedding : Double Chocolate Chip Cake
Everyone loves chocolate. We can also agree that fondant is more form over function, so we'd probably just stick with your classic creamy chocolate icing. Damn the man!
#3. City Hall Wedding : Cupcakes from Erin McKenna's Bakery
This allergy-friendly delicious cupcake situation (formerly known as Babycakes) is a go-to on Valentine's Day for us. Why wouldn't we include it in a low-key setup?
#4. Central Park Wedding : Little Pies
Pie choices could be included on the RSVP and no one would be stuck with a flavor they don't care for.
#5. DIY Wedding : Donut Cake
Simple. Silly. Just like us.
There's a few of the ideas that have been tossed around our house. Have you been to a wedding, or hosted your own, and have a thing or two to say about cake? Let us know. We've got time and we're open to your ideas!
